How I work
Personas
A dyslexic parent at 11pm, an autistic teenager, a child with ADHD, a busy TA.
WCAG 2.2 + W3C
Including the cognitive and learning guidance automated checkers can't test.
Severity ratings
So you fix the barriers that stop people first.
Words + mock-ups
Rewritten copy and a working mock-up, not only a PDF.
Case study 1
I reviewed my own portfolio first. The automated checker found just 3 issues. The bigger problems were ones no checker can catch.
| What I checked | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Automated check (axe-core, WCAG 2.2 AA) | 2 colour-contrast failures; content outside landmarks | 0 violations |
| Who is it for? | “Technical Product Evaluator & AI Data QA Specialist”, with no audience named | SEN children, young people and older or vulnerable adults, and the organisations that serve them |
| How much to take in | 11 projects across 4 brand names | 3 tools, 1 brand, 1 clear next step |
| Can you hire me? | No services or prices listed | Programmes and services with starting prices, plus a free first step |
| Reading comfort | Dark theme, small grey text, motion effects on scroll | Calm light theme, no motion, an “Easier reading” setting |
| Privacy | Third-party badge script | No cookies, trackers or third-party scripts |
Checked October 2026. More case studies will appear here as pilot reviews finish.
Case study 2 · Teardown
A cognitive accessibility teardown of a typical UK school parent app, from a parent's point of view. I found 7 issues and 1 big opportunity, then designed concept fixes.

Parents have to check email, the app's sections and a newsletter link to answer one question: “Do I need to do anything this week?”
1 way
Topping up takes a few taps. Getting a refund means contacting the school office. Money flows in more easily than it flows out.
0 priority
Urgent alerts look the same as general news, so the messages that matter most are the easiest to miss.
| Problem | Concept fix |
|---|---|
| News is split across email, app sections and the newsletter | A “Today” screen listing every action, with deadlines, in one place |
| Alerts aren't prioritised | 3 levels: Action needed, Good to know, weekly digest |
| Refunds need a call or email to the office | A Cancel button on every booking, with the deadline shown before you pay |
| Not designed for neurodivergent parents or parents with SEN | Plain-language summaries, easier-reading mode, control over how much comes through |
| A separate portal for each school, sometimes each child | All children on one account, with one combined view |
| Parents get admin, not learning | A class hub with this week's learning and two-way messaging with staff |
Independent review based on my own experience as a parent. The product isn't named. The fixes are concepts and haven't been tested with users yet.
About
I'm the founder of Mave Serenova, a small studio for calm technology.
Most technology is designed for a brain that's calm, focused and has time. Many of the children, parents and adults I care about don't get that luxury. I want the tools in their lives to adapt to them, not the other way round.
I've worked in classrooms as a supply teacher and a coding teacher, including teaching retro gaming and game design. I've seen first-hand how much depends on technology being clear, for pupils, staff and parents.
Since then I've worked as a personal assistant and administrator, and in software testing, AI evaluation and writing. I'm now using all of it for one mission: making technology calmer, clearer and safer for the people it usually leaves behind. That means SEN and neurodivergent children, young people at risk, and older or vulnerable adults, and everyone around them.
One calm idea every fortnight about technology, SEN, neurodivergent minds and digital inclusion. New tools, programmes, teardowns and resources are shared here first.
Free when you subscribe: 5 prompts from Clear Words, my AI prompt pack for schools, SEN settings and charities. Plain-language parent letters, newsletter action lists and more.
